Jeans for Genes Day – Friday 2nd October

On Friday 2nd October Jeans for Genes Day comes to Second Life.. Theres a full programme of events planned. So lets dig deep into our jean pockets and support this worthy cause. Join the Jeans for Genes group to keep up to date with whats happening.

Jeans for Genes is the UK charity that raises funds to help families of children suffering from genetic disorders as well as funding research to find cures.

You can see more about what this amazing charity does at the website http://www.jeansforgenes.com as well as learning more about genetic disorders at http://www.genesareus.com which is a place where teachers and students can learn much more.

Jeans for Genes Island and the Fashion Show
The main Jeans for Genes Island is open all day (and in the days running up to the 2nd). It will be packed with info about the cause, presented in fun ways.

On the day, there will be a programme of short films about Jeans for Genes and the life stories of children and families of children with genetic conditions showing all day in the auditorium, then the event will kick off at 10am SL with a short statement from Jeans for Genes’ head of marketing, Laura Pattison.

There will be DJ music playing throughout and a couple of events – a genetics quiz and a raffle. Both will require a modest donation to take part and there will be physical and virtual prizes. Then at 12.30am SL will be the main event: A denim fashion show with designs contributed by SL fashion designers, with the raffle drawn after that.

There will be donation buckets all around as well as vendors selling exclusive Jeans for Genes merchandise and items from the denim fashion shows. All the items and the designers’ time has been donated so all sales go directly to the charity. So there’s no excuse not to give!!

And there will be a live totaliser showing just how much has been raised.

The music event, meanwhile, takes place on Menorca:

This will feature a bill of UK and Euro based SL musicians and DJs playing from 11am SL (though the venue will be open from 9am). This leads up to a headline performance by the real life band The Mighty Roars / One Little Indian Records), making their mixed reality debut at 1.30pm SL.

Following their set, there will be a DJ party. Again, there will be donation buckets all around as well as vendors selling exclusive Jeans for Genes merchandise and items from the denim fashion shows.

The Phoenix has Risen

I was delighted when I received my first outfit from Talia Lefavre’s new line at The Graceful Lily.  I didn’t know what to expect but I new it would be amazing.

From the moment I put on the outfit I loved it.  The colors and detail are stunning.  The beautiful hues of dark to light teal make this cocktail style dress shine.  On the front, there is a pretty and unique embroidery of a phoenix rising in gold, white and a deep hue of purple bordering it.   Coming from a new line, I think this it is fitting to say this dress is a phoenix rising to new heights (implying to the designer Talia Lefavre of The Graceful Lily).  To set this dress apart, the skirt (also in the stunning teal) has gold edge detailing and a beautiful lace skirt underneath that adds a light, airy feeling as the skirt moves.

If you want to be noticed at your next dinner or night out, this dress will definately aim to please.  Not only for your eyes, but for the other eyes looking at you.

I thought I would celebrate Halloween a bit early this post. I was handed this beautiful tango-esque dress from Brocade Tiger and it brought visions of a sexy demoness. Why you ask? Cause I like to show that you can take something couture and twist it this makes a sexy costume like you can see here.

The bodice is a corset strapless, black with red lace trim and red back lacing that flows perfectly into a asymmetrical black skirt with red vine trim. It is exquisitely pieced together, the textures were chosen with care and you can see that time was taken so they match up perfectly. The seams are true to life and matched accordingly, you could honestly envision this dress hanging in a boutique someplace special.

I have chosen to match this with hair from In Esse, jewels from Gems & Kisses and Demon bits from Dark Rose and skin from Demure Designs. But you can take your favorites and pair them just as nicely. It is a fabulous piece that can be dressed up or down, depending on your accessories. Do me a favor… when you buy this dress (as you should), send me a picture of your take on it.
