Jeans for Genes Day – Friday 2nd October

On Friday 2nd October Jeans for Genes Day comes to Second Life.. Theres a full programme of events planned. So lets dig deep into our jean pockets and support this worthy cause. Join the Jeans for Genes group to keep up to date with whats happening.

Jeans for Genes is the UK charity that raises funds to help families of children suffering from genetic disorders as well as funding research to find cures.

Jeans for Genes Island and the Fashion Show
The main Jeans for Genes Island is open all day (and in the days running up to the 2nd). It will be packed with info about the cause, presented in fun ways.

On the day, there will be a programme of short films about Jeans for Genes and the life stories of children and families of children with genetic conditions showing all day in the auditorium, then the event will kick off at 10am SL with a short statement from Jeans for Genes’ head of marketing, Laura Pattison.

There will be DJ music playing throughout and a couple of events – a genetics quiz and a raffle. Both will require a modest donation to take part and there will be physical and virtual prizes. Then at 12.30am SL will be the main event: A denim fashion show with designs contributed by SL fashion designers, with the raffle drawn after that.

There will be donation buckets all around as well as vendors selling exclusive Jeans for Genes merchandise and items from the denim fashion shows. All the items and the designers’ time has been donated so all sales go directly to the charity. So there’s no excuse not to give!!

And there will be a live totaliser showing just how much has been raised.

The Gig!
The music event, meanwhile, takes place on Menorca:

This will feature a bill of UK and Euro based SL musicians and DJs playing from 11am SL (though the venue will be open from 9am). This leads up to a headline performance by the real life band The Mighty Roars / One Little Indian Records), making their mixed reality debut at 1.30pm SL.

Following their set, there will be a DJ party. Again, there will be donation buckets all around as well as vendors selling exclusive Jeans for Genes merchandise and items from the denim fashion shows.
