The Girl in the Picture

There was a girl named Emily who moved with her family into a new home. When she went to explore the house, she noticed this room in the back of the house. In the room was a single portrait of a young girl with dark curly hair. The girl in the picture looked sad and mysterious. Emily got kind of scared and walked out of the room.

As the weeks went on, she felt like she was being followed. Everytime she felt this way, she turned around and found nothing there. One night when her best friend Alice was sleeping over, she confided in her. “I feel like this girl is still here, in the house.” Emily said.

Alice suggested they should do a seance where you contact the spirits and record it. They tried every room in the house. Then they came to the basement. It was dark and quiet as the girls set up. Alice lit the candles and they started asking questions. “Why have you come here, oh ghosty?” said Alice.

“Alice, we have to take this seriously!” Emily cried. So Emily and Alice held hands and sat there quietly. For a minute, nothing happened. Then a noise like a squeak came from behind them. The girls opened their eyes and checked behind them. Nothing was there. Then the candle started to flicker.

Alice squeezed Emily’s hand tighter. Slowly Emily said “Is this the little girl form the picture?”. The candle flickered and Alice started to cry. Then Emily asked “Why are you still here? Do you want us to help you?”.Again, the candle flickered.

“Oh, try asking her if she was killed here. That’s usually why they stay.”

Before Emily could ask, the flame rose higher and higher and suddenly blew out. Both girls ran to the door and upstairs screaming. When Emily’s mother asked whatappened, she didn’t believe the story. The girls played the tape forEmily’s mother. What happened next, no one could explain. The tape was balnk. Just static and snow. The mother sent the girls to bed, claiming all they needed was rest.

A week passed since the seance. The phone rang and Emily answered it. “Emily! You will never believe this! Come over right now!”. It was Alice. When Emily arrived at her house, there was a tape playing. Emily sat down and listened. There was static and then a voice. It said “Take her picture. Take her picture.” Then there was a wooshing noise, a noise like the candle made when it blew out.

Alice turned around. “Emily, it was her. The girl! She wants you to take a picture.” An hour later, some photos of Emily were being uploaded into Alice’s computer. There was nothing out of the ordinary.

Then Emily noticed it: her shadow. It wasn’t her shdow at all. It was a girl with curly hair. The shadow was pointing down. Emily froze with terror. In every picture, she was there. Emily was scared and wanted the girl gone.

Over the next few weeks, she spent countless hours trying to figure out who this girl was. She also turned the house upside down looking for her body. In the sunday edition of the local paper, there she was. The girl with the sad face. Her name was Emily. It said the girl was missing. It also said the neighbors heard strange noises coming from the basement.

The one place Emily wouldn’t look was the basement. By the time she got home it was dark outside. There was a note on the fridge that said her parents were at dinner and would be home soon. As terrified as she was, Emily knew she had to go down there. She grabbed a flashlight and headed down the stairs.

Emily catiously searched the basement for a clue, anything to tell where the body was. then the squeak came from where the seance was. Emily walked over to look around. It felt like something had grabbed her foot and she tripped. The flashlight rolled across the floor. The light shined on the girl’s grave.

Emily didn’t realize it before, but there was one spot in the basment paved over with gray cement. it was long enough to be a grave for a young girl. Emily grabbed her dad’s tool box and pulled out a hammer and some large nails. Then she banged the nails deep enough in the cement to crack the cement. As Emily was pulling pieces away, a hand reached up from the cement and grabbed Emily’s wrist. She screamed and fought, but couldn’t get away. Another hand stuck out from the cement. The girl was pulling herself out of her grave.

Emily twisted free, but it was too late. The girl sat up straight. Her head turned to Emily’s direction. The girl was horrible looking with leathery skin that was clinging to her bones. Her face pale and her eyes were sunken into her head. She started to crawl towards Emily. Emily tried to get away, but the girl grabbed her ankle.

When Emily’s parents got home, they found their daughter wasn’t home yet. After they realized she was gone, the only clue she left behind was a flashlight, a hammer and some nails. Emily was buried right below where they stood and she was never seen alive again…

Scared? You have no idea what scared is…. Opium has something terrifying planned, come back soon to find out what it is!

Absolute ELATE!- tion

e⋅late

 /[i-leyt] verb, elated, elating, adjective

–verb (used with object)

1. to make very happy or proud
Kellie Iwish

Kellie Iwish

That is the definition of “elate” from the dictionary and it fits so well! The designs of Kellie Iwish of Elate make so many ladies in Second Life happy to wear them. I first discovered Elate! During one of the many grid wide hunts in December 2008. I walked in and thought, “OMG!”. There in front of me were THE cutest outfits I had seen in Second Life! Needless to say, I spent “a few” lindens that day and a more subsequent trips (LOL). When I was given this assignment, I knew right away which designer I wanted to blog about! I want to thank Kellie for taking the time to answer my questions and having such wonderful clothes for us to wear and express ourselves in this pixelated, digital world.

Kelcie Alsop: When did you start designing in Second Life?

Kellie Iwish: I made my first piece of clothing in SL on January 10th, 2008. A few weeks later, I opened the first (Elate!). I had a whopping three items for sale. Ha-ha!

KA: Why did you start designing?

KI: I was fairly new in SL, and I read an article by a popular designer talking about her humble beginnings starting out with a tiny shop with no customers. It occurred to me that it might be possible for anyone to try their hand (and succeed) at designing. Also, I figured creating my own clothes would be cheaper than buying them. :)

KA: What was your first design?

    KI: A leopard print shirt!

KA: Why did you decide on the name “Elate!” ?

KI: I have always been a happy, optimistic person. I wanted to use a word that would make people smile.

KA: How would you describe your style?

    KI: Classic, elegant, colorful, flirty.

KA: What is the one favorite outfit or item you’ve done to date and why?

KI: Even though it’s an older dress, Felicity is still my favorite. I still wear it often.

KA: What do you feel is the key to being a successful designer?

KI: Experiment! I am still learning new things about creating with every dress I make.

KA: How does it make you feel when you see your designs on the runway?

    KI: Excited!

KA: How does it make you feel when you see your designs on avatars while you are out and about?

KI: Flattered! And I love to see people combine my dresses with other pieces to make unique outfits. It’s like seeing a personalized twist on my original creation.

KA: What are your goals for your career in SL?

KI: Just to keep making what I love and, hopefully, what others love too. I hope to create more prefabs soon.

KA: What are some of the things you like to do in your spare time in SL?

KI: I spend a lot of time doing my part to keep the SL economy strong (aka shopping like a fiend). Also, I spend a lot of time hanging out with my wonderful friends. I’ve met so many in this amazing world in which our avatars live.

Kelcie Alsop in Elate!'s "Phoebe"

KA: What would you be doing in SL if you had not become a top designer?

KI: Probably most of the same stuff I already do. I suppose I’d still be making things even if no one bought them. I can’t imagine my SL life without content creation. It’s my creative outlet.

You can find these wonderful designs at one of several Elate! locations: The main store on the Sunny sim and satellite stores on Cupcake, HoPo, Retrology, and Rue DAntibes sims.
