Fashion Faux Pas Part II

Last month we reflected on a fashion faux pas of Second Life that took at look at jewelry.  Specifically, necklaces.

I chose necklaces because it was, and probably still is, one of my top areas of difficulty as well as something that bothers me a lot.  They are something that are worn with regularity and are pretty obvious to the eye.  I’m still working on perfecting this skill set.

What other fashion faux pas exist in Second Life?  There are a ton of them out there, but one that bothered me in particular was hair.  Even more specifically, hats and hair.  You see, I love hats, but found it difficult to wear them in Second Life.  Either the hat had hair sticking out somewhere OR the hat was moved so far up off of the head that it didn’t look like it was sitting on the head anymore.  What’s a girl to do?

Then, one day, I ran across a tip from Couture Chapeau (amazing what you find when you actually READ materials included in a purchase).  There were 10 easy steps to great hat hair included with my purchase of a hat from her shop.  Now, what made me think I could purchase a hat and get away with actually wearing it when I had no clue about editing the hair worn with it?  I’ve no idea what was going through my mind.  I do know, however, that ever since then I’ve been on cloud 9 and wearing my hats in style!

Read on and you can also have a simple trick for great hat hair…

1. Make a copy of your hair and label it Hat Hair.

2. Wear hair and desired hat.

3. Right click on hair.

4. Choose edit.

5. Check box “Edit Linked Parts.”

6. Check box “Stretch.”  (Make sure that “Stretch Both Sides is NOT checked.)

7. Right click individual prim hair (the offending piece, of course).

8. Decrease size of prim until it disappears inside the hat.

9. Repeat for all hair sticking outside of hat.

10. If you make a mistake on an individual prim, right click the prim and in the “Edit” menu at the top of the screen, click “Undo.”

Viola!  Simple steps to perfect hat hair.

One other little tip to keep in mind – some hair makers are making hair specifically meant to go with hats now.  This is especially helpful as well.  For instance, check out the Tukinowaguma style named Donna.

Or, there’s always the hair that comes with hats already!!!!   LOL

Happy hat shopping!
